”Leda” Swan 36 S&S 52/1969, rakentaja Nautor, Pietarsaari. Vene on myyty suoraan Englantiin ja nimeksi on silloin tullut ”Allamanda”. Omistajana on ollut yksityinen henkilö, mutta vuonna 1972 ”Allamanda” myytiin kolmen henkilön yhteisomistukseen. Pari vuotta myöhemmin yksi omistajaryhmän jäsenistä lunasti veneen itselleen. 1978 vene myytiin jälleen, ja Lontoossa asunut omistaja rekisteröi veneen uudeksi nimeksi ”Salamanda of Hamble”. Vene on koko Englannin aikansa ollut Southampton/Hamble -alueella ja sitä on käytetty ahkerasti kilpailutarkoituksiin, mm. klubipurjehduksiin. Suomeen vene ostettiin Hamblesta kesällä 1987. Edellinen omistaja, joka hankki sittemmin Swan 38-veneen, ei myynyt nimeä, ja uudeksi nimeksi löytyi sopiva nimi mytologiasta, ”Leda”.
Ensimmäisenä talvena vene ehostettiin perusteellisesti, säilyttäen kuitenkin niin paljon alkuperäistä kuin mahdollista. Välttämättömiä korjauksia ja uudistuksia tehdään jatkuvasti aina tarpeen mukaan, mutta mainita voi että alkuperäiset B&G-instrumentit joutuivat vaihtoon vasta kun asentamisesta oli kulunut 40 vuotta, ja kaikki lopettivat toimintansa samana kesänä!
Turussa pidetyssä Swan Anniversary Regatassa 2006 ”Ledalle” myönnettiin ”Best Maintained Swan Award” ja vuonna 2016 Swan Regatassa Ola Hallman Memorial Trophy. Venettä käytetään pääosin retkipurjehdukseen Itämeren alueella.
”Leda” Swan 36 S&S 52/1969, builder Nautor, Finland. The first owner was an Englishman and the name given to the boat was ”Allamanda”. In 1972 she was sold to a group of three sailors, but a couple of years later one of them bought ”Allamanda” to himself. Some more years after that the boat was sold again, the new owner lived in London and he changed the name to ”Salamanda of Hamble”. The boat has spent all her years in England in the Southampton/Hamble area and has been both cruising and racing, for example in club races. To Finland ”Salamanda” moved in summer 1987. The previous owner did not sell the name (he bought a Swan 38) and so the boat had to be re-christened: the new very suitable name ”Leda” was found in the Greek mythology.
During the first winter in Turku, the boat went through an extensive face-lift by the new owners. Many cosmetic improvements were needed but as many original features and fittings as possible were left unchanged. Necessary repairs and changes must naturally be made when needed, but for example, the original B&G instruments lasted full 40 years: when they got tired they all did that during the same summer!
In the Swan Anniversary Regatta in Turku in 2006 ”Leda” was given the ”Best Maintained Swan Award”, and in 2016 Swan Regatta the Ola Hallman Memorial Trophy. Every sailing season from May till September ”Leda” is cruising in the Baltic waters.
