Swan 36 ”Adelfe” rakennettiin Nautorilla 1967 runkonumerolla 002 mutta lähti veistämöltä keskeneräisenä ja sai odottaa suojassa yli kaksi vuosikymmentä ennen vesillelaskua 1990. Adelfe on siis toinen Nautorin koskaan rakentama vene ja viimeinen koskaan vesillelaskettu S&S Swan. Veneen toinen omistaja on purjehtinut 26 vuoden aikana 30 000 mailia ja asunut veneessä yhteensä kolmen vuoden ajan.
Adelfe on luonteeltaan jäykkä, nousee kryssissä korkealle, on miellyttävä ja merikelpoinen purjehtia mutta tarvitsee oikeankokoisen keulakolmion parhaan suorituskykynsä saavuttaakseen. Veneellä on kilpailtu perhemiehistöllä kohtuullisella menestyksellä. Kaksi Helsinki-Tallinna kisan voittoa ja kolmas Clasic race Visby-Tukholma.
Vuosien aikana on tehty vähitellen koko veneen korjaus- ja uusimisremontti mutta pyritty säilyttämään alkuperäiset ratkaisut. Purjehdusergonomiaa on parannettu ja hankittu rullagenua (2018).
Adelfen purjehtiminen on suuri nautinto. Olin Stephens sanoi minulle katsellessamme purjehtivia veneitä laivan reeliinkiin nojaten Isle of Wight saarelle mennessämme: ”The size really doesn’t matter. The pleasure of sailing is best on a 33 feet boat”.
Adelfe, Swan 36, was built by Nautor 1967 but left the boatyard semifinished with the hull no.002. She was launched so late as twenty years later in 1990. Therefore Adelfe is the second Swan ever build and the last S&S Swan launched. The first owner who gave the name Adelfe was a busy family and we bought the boat 1992. We have now sailed Adelfe mainly in the Baltic 30000NM and sailed and lived on board all-together the time of three years.
Adelfe is stiff, high pointing when foretriangle sheeted inside the reeling, she is comfortable and seaworthy to sail but needs the right foretriangle(big enough) to sail to her best speed. When properly sailed she keeps a steady speed in wind speeds over 8 knots. We have raced her with the family crew with moderate success. Two times winner of Helsinki-Tallinn Race and 3rd in Classic Race Visby-Stockholm (two-handed). She is easy to sail also singlehanded.
During the years we have refurbished the boat from keel to deck, improved the ergonomics and installing furling genoa (2018). However, I have tried to keep the boat original.
To sail Adelfe is a great pleasure. Olin Stephens once said to me when we were onboard a ship to Isle of Wight leaning on the reeling and looking at the sailing boats: ”The size really doesn’t matter. The pleasure of sailing is best on a 33 feet boat.”
